The Master Cleanse
I know what your thinking, yea another detox crazy diet plan. Yes it sounds strange at first however this diet REALLY works. Two weeks ago I did it for 6 days. It was hard at first but eventually I wasn’t hungry and the results were very real. I lost 7 lbs, even if it was water weight it was a great motivation to start eating healthier. It cleaned out my system and I have never felt more mentally clear.
What is the master cleanse?
If this is the first time you have heard about the master cleanse then you should know that this is just a brief introduction and you should either research it more or buy the book called “the master cleanse” by Stanley Burroughs.
The master cleanse is a detox diet. It cleans out your entire digestive system. The plan must be followed exactly else it would give the results your looking for.
How do you do the Master Cleanse?
First you will need the following materials:
Lemons or limes (about 5 per day)
Genuine organic grade b maple syrup 2 table spoons per drink or about 4-5 oz per day
Cayenne pepper a good hardy pinch per drink
Water
Smooth move tea
Organic not iodized salt
Lemon/lime juicer
The Plan.
Every morning you will drink 32oz of warm water with 2 teaspoons of salt. This acts like a natural laxative to get things moving along. You will need to go to the bathroom 30 to 2 hours after drinking the drink. Also you want to drink the drink as fast as you can. With my experience I found I had to go to the bathroom about 3 hours afterward.
To make the drink you combine lemons syrup and cayenne pepper in your drink, I used a 64oz bottle of the day, so here are my measurements for that.
5oz maple syrup
5oz lemon juice
6 cups water (filtered)
3 1/10ths tablespoon cayenne pepper. About two pinches.
At night you will drink the smooth move tea to aid in ridding your body of the harmful toxins.
How long?
The book recommends 10 to 40 days, 40 DAYS…yes there have been many people going 40 days. Some of them are on youtube, check out there vids.
Does it work?
Yes, first it has been one of the only diets in the past that I have been able to stick to. If you think your not eating anything your right but your still consuming about 850 cal.
To learn more I recommend reading info and trying it yourself!!!!

Has anyone out there done this fasting/cleansing thing? Sounds rough, but God knows I could stand to clean my system out and give my digestive system a rest! If you have tried this, I would love to hear from you!

Hi, my name is Jenna and this is my first blog everrr!! I live in Massachusetts and the recent transition from summer to fall has left me feeling sluggish and illlll :( So, I've decided to attempt the Master Cleanse (also known as the Lemonade Diet). I work @ a health food store and the Master Cleanse is a fast, based on a book we carry written by Stanley Burroughs.
Initially, this book was intended for people with disease and a variety of other health issues. It's also an amazing way to clean out the colon and kidneys. I've done a cleanse in the past made by Renew Life called the First Cleanse and really liked it but I didnt have to fast, I just took 2 capsules in the morning before breakfast and 2 at night before dinner. (If you're looking for a cleanse without having to fast, check it out @ ) I feel like its time for me do something good for my body thats a little more intense plus I wouldnt be upset if I shed a few lbs in the process. I've done some research and it's been said that Beyonce used the Master Cleanse to prepare for her role in Dreamgirls and lost 20lbs in 10 days anddd I'm telling myself that if she can do it, so can I! haha
I've come across a bunch of sites where people track their process. I think its awesome for the people who are thinking about doing it so they will have an idea of what to expect. For me, it's more of a motivation because I'd hate to have to write that I cheated or didnt last the entire 10 days. lol.
Alrighty so here's the recipe....
2 Tablespoons lemon or lime juice (about half a lemon’s worth)
2 Tablespoons genuine maple syrup Grade B or C (Not maple flavored sugar syrup!)
1/10 Teaspoon cayenne pepper (red pepper) or to taste
8 oz water
Combine the lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne pepper then water (hot or cold or room temperature) and drink.

Along with three friends, I am embarking on the Master Cleanse. While this doesn't necessarily have to do with life in Austin, I don't think I'd ever make this decision if I weren't here. When I moved back home to Austin after I graduated college, within a year I was almost vegetarian (eating only free-range meat and chicken), shopping at Wheatsville, feeding my dog all-natural dog food, doing a different cleanse (one that allowed only fruits and veggies, and provided a bunch of supplements to take), seeing an acupuncturist as my primary care physician, and practicing yoga. I grew up in Austin and was never this much of a hippie. What had the city done to me?!
So when a friend asked if I'd like to take on the Master Cleanse, a 10-day cleanse of the system where you drink a lemonade concoction, perform a saltwater flush, and drink laxative tea, I was totally in. And I blame that on Austin.
I'm thrilled about it, truthfully. For me, I think it will have as many psychological benefits as it does physical/health benefits. Learning to forgo cravings and alleviate a dependence on food will certainly be interesting, as will seeing the impact not eating has on my social life. Geez, what will I even blog about?!
I'll keep you posted on my experience (overall, not in detail, plenty of those graphic blogs are available on the web), and if you're curious, here are a few good resources
This website is contains a lot of helpful information. The guy who made it is trying to sell his book, so you should be aware of that while reading this site. But his info on the 5 symptoms of detox, the FAQ, and the most common mistakes are pretty helpful. I also found it helpful to look through the message boards to know what to expect... but also, be careful of that, because some people are just big babies.
This is a journal of one girl who did the cleanse. She experienced a lot of things similar to what I did, aside from her experience with the smooth moves tea. But I think her journal is a pretty good read. She also talks about feeling sick, which neither Michael or I experienced. My thought on this: She did not do the salt water flushes everyday. According to the book, the lemonade drink encourages your body to release toxins, and the salt water flush helps to get those toxins out. So if that is true, she was essentially releasing toxins, but not getting them out...which I think could explain her symptoms.
If you are interested in more journals, there are a lot of video journals on youtube which I remember watching last year.
