Doctors Ignore Obesity

So, how come “many overweight patients are not being advised to lose weight, diet, or exercise”.

In fact, when it comes to medical intervention in cases of obesity, the numbers are as follows:

  1. Having a doctor tell the patient about the health problems associated with being overweight (48.0%),
  2. Suggesting diet and exercise (46.5%),
  3. Referring the patient to a formal diet program (5.2%),
  4. Prescribing a weight loss medication (4.0%),
  5. Recommending a non-prescription weight loss product (1.8%),
  6. Recommending stomach bypass surgery (1.5%).

I don’t know about you, but considering that obesity is fast becoming the western world’s #1 health issue, I think that the global medical community should be taking obesity prevention/treatment much more seriously.

I don’t know if it’s a lack of knowledge or the threat of discrimination lawsuits or the frustration of being ignored by obese patients over and over and over, but if we want to reverse the tide of obesity related disease, real steps need to be taken.

The time for talk is over.

WHERE IT ALL BEGINS

Posted by admin on September 30th, 2009 — Posted in Fat loss

When we think of exercising we think of musty gyms, the clanging of iron plates and the occasional hottie working out next to you. Exercising can range from washing you car, gardening, cleaning house or having sexual relations. It all amounts to burning calories by getting your heart rate up above whatever your resting heart rate may be. A walk around the block two, three or four times a week is all it takes to stay reasonably fit. Now if you’re like most, you go to work and sit behind a desk for 8 hours. Go home and eat dinner, then watch TV until the TV watches you. You get up the next morning and the routine starts all over, sort of like ground hog day. A year goes by and you wonder why you are gaining weight. Your gaining weight because you’re lazy. It does not require a whole lot of effort to push a button (on your remote) and raise your feet (putting them up on the ottoman). I don’t know about you but I want to live as long as I can and to me it is all about the quality of that life. So do yourself a favor and get up off the couch, stop making excuses because all it takes it a good hour of some sort of physical activity to stay reasonably fit. Research has proven obesity is a major factor contributing to disease in the human body. Losing body fat is easier than you think if you know how. The Skinny Bitch

Posted by admin on September 30th, 2009 — Posted in Losing weight

Maybe the best, tell-it-as-it-is book ever.

I’ve just read the first 10 pages and already I feel like I can take on the world and be that size 4 that my body is supposed to be. (I’m a size 8 now).

Size 8 isn’t bad I dont think, but my frame is so small that I do have that budha belly thing going on and it makes me feel not so nice.

So a friend of mine in LA dropped 30 lbs in the last 6 months. God I love her, but she needed to do something about her eating habits. I dont think I’ve seen a man tackle a plate of food like she did. Anyway, she lost the weight she said by going brown and reading this book.

So let’s see how it goes.  What I like about the first 10 pages is that it says you dont have to deprive yourself of food, just use or brain and dont eat chemical shit. Simple, no?

If You Make it Fun They Will Come

Posted by admin on September 30th, 2009 — Posted in Fat loss

I hope you all enjoyed last week’s blog on preventing the flu with a healthy lifestyle.  This week, with the hint of Fall in the air, we are going to talk about spending some good, quality family-time outside.  It’s time to turn off the TVs, PlayStations, and other distractions, get out and enjoy the crisp air. It’s important to lead by example for your family.  If you make exercise a focal point, you are setting your children up for a successful healthy lifestyle in the future.

For us, this is one of the best times of the year for outdoor activities. We live in a wonderful place and there is plenty to do; most are even free.  The obvious ones are walking, biking, and hiking, but there is so much more.  Go to a park and throw a Frisbee. This is a great way to get the family moving while having fun (this is the key).  People tend to exercise more when they don’t know they are doing it.  Grayton Beach State Park is a great place to be outside. We rented a canoe there and had a blast and got a great upper body workout. YOLO boarding is another great workout while playing on the water. Here is there link http://www.yoloboard.com (let them know we sent you).  And if you don’t live by the beach, one of the best things about exercise is you can always find a place to do it if look hard enough. So as you can see what you do is irrelevant; it’s who you do it with. With a little planning, water, and snacks you can almost guarantee yourself a good time. So get your family out there and start moving and feel young again!  Exercise is contagious once your family gets a taste they’ll want more.  Let us know what some of your favorite outdoor activities include!
We look forward to seeing you out there!

Yours in Health,

Colleen and John Riddle

When Should You Exercise?

Posted by admin on September 30th, 2009 — Posted in Fat loss

When Should You ExerciseIf you’re exercising regularly congratulations because you are a rare commodity in the world. The question is… When do you exercise?

Most people who exercise in the morning do so 30-60 minutes after breakfast. This is absolutely backwards. If you want to get the most out of your exercise routine, you need to exercise before you eat.

Exercising before you eat is the most efficient time to do cardio because it doesn’t impact digestion and therefore allows your body to burn more fat.

Most people would think it would be difficult not to eat before working out, but what works best for me is working out right after I wake up. This way my body doesn’t have time to get hungry which is what happens after about 2 hours of being awake.

If your schedule doesn’t permit you to workout right after you wake up or you simply don’t want to, then you should just make sure to do cardio 2-3 hours after you’ve eaten. This way your body has been given plenty of time to digest your food, and can then focus more on fat burning when your cardio session begins.

Why Medifast is the Right Diet for Me

Posted by admin on September 30th, 2009 — Posted in Losing weight

A friend had asked me why I had chosen the Medifast Program among all the other diets available. The answer is really quite simple.

For one, it is an uncomplicated diet program. There is nothing to memorize. Nothing to count. The meals are pre-packed and requires very minimal preparation time. In fact, for most of the Medifast meals, all you need to do is to add water. Aside from that, the Medifast meals are individually packed and are very convenient to bring to the office or even on a vacation.

For those who are not aware, the Medifast program has been developed by a physician and is in fact, recommended by over 15,000 physicians worldwide. This definitely earns my trust and confidence. I believe I may have mentioned previously that prior to starting the Medifast program, I had to secure the approval of my physician. Medifast recommends this as your physician can help you assess whether this is the right program for you. Regular check ups with your physician while on the Medifast diet is also encouraged.

The best thing about Medifast is the number of successful clients they have. A search on the web will bring you a lot of testimonials all attesting to the effectiveness of the program. They are so confident that you will reach your target weight that they actually have a program in place for such eventuality.

All these make Medifast number one on my list. I am now on my second week and I am loving it.
